Philip Dekker

Solicitor (England and Wales) · IAPP Certified AI Governance Professional

Philip is a Fractional General Counsel and IAPP Certified AI Governance Professional with over 13 years’ legal and commercial experience across the UK, Amsterdam and Switzerland. He trained at Freshfields before moving into senior in-house roles with scaling businesses and global enterprises.

As Senior Managing Counsel at Booking.com in Amsterdam, Philip led the legal team supporting its multi-billion-euro accommodations business across more than 200 markets, advising senior leadership on commercial strategy, technology and the regulatory issues arising from operating a global digital business at scale. He has also served as Head of Legal at FareHarbor, a global SaaS business, on secondment.

Today, Philip works with technology and scaling businesses on AI governance, product risk and the commercial decisions beneath them, including businesses advancing through funding rounds.

His view of governance is that it has to work in practice: policies only have value when people understand them, decisions can be made against them, and the business can operate within them.

At Arkmont, Philip brings together senior in-house experience, legal judgement and AI governance expertise to help businesses move from AI experimentation to confident, defensible use.

Philip is known for turning complicated positions into something a business can act on, and for answering the question that should have been asked as well as the one that was. He works directly with the people who have to live with the decision, is dependable on what he commits to, and keeps the work good-humoured along the way.
